Descriptive

Descriptive

Just about every Sunday morning I follow a pretty strict routine. I almost always wake up to the smell of bacon, I work late on Saturdays and sleep in and my wife cooks breakfast every Sunday. I am usually a little discombobulated form the night before so it takes a little time fumbling around to find my glasses and then I immediately check my phone for fantasy football news. I then head outside for a morning smoke, the ground is usually so cold in the morning it feels like a thousand needles poking me in my feet. After the smoke I head inside and warm up with a hot cup of coffee and breakfast. I chat with my wife for a while because we probably won’t talk much during the day.

Around 9:00am I’m usually done with breakfast and begin my Sunday football ritual. It takes me about thirty minutes to set up my living room and when I’m done it looks more like some sort of a video surveillance room. I have three TVs set up (two 32” and one 47”), I have my laptop going, my phone is always in my hand, and my Kindle is never out of arms reach. And then I wait, and wait, and wait. The next two hours feel like an eternity. I pace back and forth in the living room sometimes speaking out loud to myself but usually in my head, did I pick the right guys, are the bears going to win, it never ends.

By the time its 11:45am I have changed my lineup at least ten times, but now I am ready. I head back outside for one more smoke and the ground is always quite a bit warmer since the sun has peaked over the house and is beating down on the walkway. I head back inside open up the window behind the couch, even in the middle of winter. I like that gentle breeze coming in over the back of the couch. I snuggle up with my huge Chicago Bears colored blanket and don’t move for the next 11 hours. I love Sundays.

  1. Bacon, blankets and football sounds like a damn good Sunday. Your description was good. I was able to follow your day easily and you painted a good picture for me to relate with. Nice essay.

  2. Wow, I guess you can get pretty wrap up in this type of sport. I love the details that you gave about waking up to bacon and setting up your living room to look like a video surveillance room. I could just imagine in my head how it looks like. Overall, your plot was very easy to follow and read. I did some some grammar and typo but not too bad. Way to go.

  3. I really liked your second paragraph, it made me smile, and think of my son in law. He loves fantasy football, and he is a bears fan. I also like your last four sentances, you can really picture what you are doing on sundays. A few typo's but overall a good essay.

  4. Your story was great! I like the paragraph when you are describing the living room set up. Even the part when you descibe your everyday morning ritual.

  6. I enjoyed reading your descriptive essay. Your selection of words and the manner you deliver them brought me into your Sunday. I felt like I could see things from the point of view of your wife as well. I felt admiration for your relationship. The collective "we" where I live take turns making the Sunday breakfast. I don't care for football but I enjoy the passion you have for it. Thank you for sharing your story.

  7. Im not the kind to get that wrapped up in something(especially fantasy football). Nothing wrong with it, though. I apparently need to do a little more backround searching on it. More of a decsiption of the breakfast and maybe the living room would have been great. I was trying to get a view of what it looked like before you moved in that morning. Good job Im actually looking forward to more of your essays on this topic.

  8. The smell of bacon lol. Good description. I would of liked to know more about what the living room looked like. What the tvs looked like and what the set up was. Chairs couches and such. It sounds like nerves and fun all rolled up into one. I liked the way you talked about what was going on inside your head. Nice job.
